Importing recipes
Last updated: June 7, 2026
Chefra can build a clean recipe from a link, a photo, or a screenshot. Here's what to expect.
From a URL
Paste the link to a recipe page and Chefra extracts the factual data — ingredients, yield, cook time, and tags — and adds an Adapted from link back to the original source.
We do not copy the author's prose instructions or descriptions. See our Recipe Sourcing policy for the full rules.
From a photo or screenshot
Upload a clear photo of a printed recipe card, a cookbook page, or a screenshot. Chefra reads the text and pre-fills the recipe fields. Double-check the result before saving — handwriting and faded ink can fool the parser.
From scratch
Tap + → Add recipe → Blank to type one in by hand. You can paste a block of ingredients and we'll split them into rows for you.
What you can't import
- Paywalled pages where the recipe is behind a login.
- Pages that block automated readers (we respect
robots.txt). - Video-only recipes with no text on the page.
