Recipe Sourcing Policy
Last updated: May 30, 2026
When you import a recipe from another website, we follow a strict facts-only approach designed to respect the original creator.
What we import
- Ingredients — facts about quantities and items.
- Times and yields — prep time, cook time, servings.
- Tags and categories — generic descriptors.
- An estimated nutrition profile — calculated by us from the ingredient list, not copied from the source.
What we do not import
- The original author's prose instructions.
- The author's headnote or descriptive copy.
- Photos hosted on the source site (unless you choose to upload your own).
Why this works
Under U.S. copyright law, facts — including lists of ingredients and basic functional descriptions — are not protected. Creative expression, such as a writer's voice in the instructions or headnote, is. By importing only the facts and asking you to write your own notes, we keep things fair to creators while still making recipes useful.
Attribution
Every imported recipe displays an "Adapted from" button that links back to the original source so credit and traffic flow to the creator.
Best practices for users
- Write your instructions in your own words.
- Use your own photos.
- Keep the source link intact.
